LIFE SKILLS CENTER

Sistahood is a club of and for girls between the ages of 13 and 18+ in Imizamo Yethu. We recently started working with +/-20 girls. This organization exists to provide moral support, motivation, inspiration and education support to young girls in the community.

Over the years Sistahood recognises that young girls & women are facing real and intense challenges, particularly in our Cape Flats and townships. Every day Sistahood helps young women and girls make better choices in life. We encourage our girls to complete their Grade 12 and study further. We motivate them to dream big and never limit themselves by providing the support they need to achieve their goals. We all want to be successful in whatever field we choose. Though without the right support and contacts that cannot happen. Sistahood will always be the supporter of girls & women within & outside of our organization.

MONDAY

Monday's are for assisting the girls with reading and writing in Xhosa and English. Volunteers help with mathematics and other subjects the girls are studying in school. We help prepare for exams and assist the girls with homework.

WEDNESDAY

Wednesday's are for Social Life Skills. These included: presentations, life coaching, and guest visitors to motivate the girls. We also debate recent topics, engage in group dialoge, and provide one-on-one sessions each member.

FRIDAY

Friday's are for Arts and Culture. We have our own girls’ choir and practice drama, dancing, & poetry as well. We also play sports: netball, soccer, & touch rugby.

SATURDAY

Saturday's are for outings. All our outing are educational. We aim to support education and expose the girls to a world that they don’t see every day. We also keep our outings fun and exciting. Previous outings included hiking Table Mountain, visiting museums, nature reserve (San Parks), ice skating, & the movies.
